Bangla... Smell??

I know this is a bit off topic (well sort off) but does anybody know what that fruit is that Thai's go crazy over. It is usually a bunch of very green leaves that have seed pods just smaller than the size of a golf ball, with about 6 seed pods on a leaf. They eat the seed pods. More so they just love eating them, even trade them. Everybody has a good larf when they eat cause they say it makes bot bot vey very smelly mak mak. They say Bangla smell same same .

ideally it should go thru just before the road closes at 6pm - bar owners could arrange for their trash to be taken out by then and that will leave Bangla Road clear of rubbish when most tourists are about?

The smell in the drains is really from all the decomposing bodies of tourists who complain and are "killed in accidents" on the beach or in arguments with Tuk Tuks.We don't want adverse publicity in Patong so we have a disposal option.:rules:

It's called sataw (spelling?) and it's very much an acquired taste. Particularly popular in the south.

... and yeah, it stinks before and after eating.

Just BTW, that smell in Bangla was strong when I first arrived back in March 86 - one of the first things I noticed. Good to know some things never change.

Thanks sishow and dogbower. Yeah it's definately sawtaw.. I googled it. The TGs that were eating them were from the south. They guarded them as if they were gold. Have never eaten it myself and I don't think I will try. I have also heard about Durian. That's obviously a fruit to be wary of.

5555555, i stopped eating Durian long time ago. Weird i enjoyed it when i was young, i even drink water using the durian skin. When i grew older, i couldnt take the smell and just stopped.

Oh, great subject here. You've got this in one. The Thai girls absolutely LOOOOOOVE it when you fart. They think it's a higher standard if you fart in front of them than if you fart in public.
