Best bar in Patong......

....... for just having a beer on your own - mtb, I know, but got any other choices?
For me early evening it's the beer bars on Bangla opposite Soi Katoey just people watching, and later the bars under Tiger for watching mini-skirted girls dacing on the bar.

For me, it's not really even a "bar" - it's the temporary bars that people set up on beach road (right near the end of Bangla) where you can sit out in the open in the evening, in the fresh air, watch what's going on, and talk to people in a relaxing atmosphere, with no blaring music and teevee sets. Beer's 50 baht a bottle, and if you're there with a fun group of people, it's quite enjoyable.

To answer the OP, recently whilst in Patong with friends over from OZ, we enjoyed watching the early evening delights from the 60 Baht bar opp Chicago music bar. Cheap grog and ring side seat alone or with friends the view never changes !!!

And steal the customers from the high rent-paying bars inside. probably don't even pay for a liquor license... of course it's cheap.
I do agree with the music thing... that's why I love Bhudda days...quiet bars.

For me it has to be kangaroo bar on bangla.

Think the layout is great, the atmosphere and music was always good when i was there. The girls were good looking and they always had football or rugby on the television.

There's no intent to "wind anyone up", just my answer. I like beer. I like being out in the open, and I don't like going to indoor "bars" be it in the USA or Thailand, or anywhere else for that matter. I like those little places along the road, where you can sit and drink, talk or not, and come and go as you please. It's also true I hate the loud music that's often playing at other places, but I'm sure most people love it or they wouldn't be playing it. There's no obligation to buy anyone else a drink, no expectation you're going to leave with someone else, just a place to sit, relax, drink, and talk to people if you enjoy it.

I was ery careful in my reply not to say ANYTHING as to what anyone else could do, should do, might do, or whatever - only what *I* enjoy doing. The OP posted his reasons, and I posted mine. There's no contradictions, or "either/or" involved.

Hard to say. Depends on your mode.
Def. MTB for some action and familiar friendly faces.
Otherwise not at Patong at all.

My very first year there, we used to always go to U2 bar on Bang la opposite the soi's, to start the night off.

The dj, a young Thai dude used to play loads of Stone Roses, Oasis, Arctic Monkeys, Chili Peppers etc etc for us as soon as we walked in. Rock the place for an hour or 2 before headin for some action

I'm not a fan of most bars in bangla anymore....I drink at MTB to catch up with Nicke and my mates as this is where we mostly congregate...so if I'm out and about solo I can always catch up with someone I know in there....most of my drinking is done up on nanai or over in lalaland these days

Don't know that one. Only bars I've been in on Rat-u-thit are Parrot bar, which I like as Yo, the Burmese guy that manages it is really friendly - and 2 Black Sheep which was Ok.

I always drink at the Lion's Bar in Soi Seadragon as became good friends with the owner Lee and friends with all the girls there but also try to pop into the Winter Break Bar in Soi Lion as good place to drink and again have made friends at that bar also

I like the places further along where they have a similar thing going but sell food, and have mats to sit on between the beach and the road in the daytime.
