but still think you'll find most do it thru' inexperience and lack of knowledge,
not to try and take the pi*s.

need to lighten up a little sometimes too. if the board wishes to make it a hard and fast rule that newbies can't start/reply to other threads then it would be fairly simple to arrange (i would think, technophiles correct me if i'm wrong) that ALL 1st post must be in the newbies section.

seems unduly fascist to me but perhaps those who feel strongly should take it up with the moderators.

In the absence of such a rule I think I prefer to welcome and encourage new talent - might go a long way to countering some of the repetititious stuff you refer to

I am not going to get into the name calling shit but I will say this, That over the last couple of months, The quailty of BMs signing up to this forum has not been up to standard of the past.....

I used to come onto this forum and read through every single thread, Really good reading and interesting stories from lots and lots of BMs, Nowadays I just scroll through the threads and read only a selected few because the rest are filled with crap that is just posted day after day, For me it gets boring.....

And its not just me, The same BMs who used to write all these great tour reports and start really interesting threads have also lost interest in the forum for the very same reason, I know this because I have spoken to a few of them about it.....

Dont get me wrong its alright to ask questions but at the very least a new BM can do a bit of research through the tons and tons of usefull information on this site, But an extremely low amount of them do and thats where these kinda stupid arguments start over.....

One other thing its not a fascist way at all to have every new member post in the Newbies section, Its there to help them and its also a place where they can ask there questions without fear of being flamed and then when they get enough confidence from all the info this forum has to offer, Then they can start using the main board and maybe even start contributing back into it, Well thats the way its supposed to work, But lately thats just not been happening.... Which is a real shame for this forum.....

I agree with all that Ally has said , the Newbies section is there to introduce and help those who unsure about how the forum works. stevem and myself took time to post a "sticky" titled "Must read for all Newbies" , in it there is a lot of basic advice , including tips on where to post , using the "search function" so that you don't ask the same questions that have been covered recently ,posting an introduction so that we know what type of things you're after.

If people would take a couple of minutes to read this before posting , it would save the same questions constantly appearing , and then if specific questions were posted they would get a better response.

Over the past week there have been some excellent posts from "Newbies" who have taken bit of time to post introductions and then after doing a bit of research narrowed down the questions they have to one or two. These guys have then got a good reception from BM's , as they have put in a little effort and not just expected others to do all the work for them.

I am happy to answer Newbies questions , but it does get on my nerves after a while when the same questions appear continually , especially as most of the answers are available if only people would do a bit of looking for themselves.

Its human nature to feel like this, and probably some times its even true. However, as the board grows it is to some extent inevitable that the old hands feel like this and maybe shows how the board can be victimised of its own success.

Agree totally(as i've already said) with the wisdom of looking over the board before rushing to post - this avoids some of the most tedious repetitions.

I take FT's point, there have been quite a few really good posts from the newbies of late IMHO and to reiterate perhaps the way forward is to encourage people not pull them down. I'm always wary of this rather unpleasant facet of human nature, always makes we wonder why someone would be motivated to take a pop at others just to give themselves a boost.

The post that prompted DD's outburst and my response may have contained some stuff most of us are familiar with but the guy obviously took pains and time to post it and it was important to him, no matter what others may think of it. Hope no-one is sitting in judgement giving scores for the artistic merit of our individual posts - think we could all be in the mire occasionally


At any rate, the option still remains to have all newcomers forced to post in the Newbie section - still feel this would be a step in the wrong direction, but am prepared to agree to differ.


Geespot, don't know about 10% - you could be right mate but how can you tell if you don't read them. If you're being so selective the danger is you only read post by people you like ie yer mates or others who agree with you and share your views. Sounds like a recipe for seforum.xxxnation and you may miss the gems
