Heard a rumor that Eric havent been able to renew his contract for Soi Eric.
According to what I heard, a 76 year old thai-chinese has bought the contracts for all of the soi's and he's building a hotel complex.

Any truth in this?

Similar rumors come and go.. The croc head lease was within days of having a swithceroo a couple of years ago.. Then the tsunami made all the investors back out.. Tiger has been a mystery for a while.. I was wrong on that..

Hotel being planned at the back of Croc for ages..

Here's the new "Bangla Boxing Stadium", although it's not on Soi Bangla anymore, but on the Patong Sai 3 Rd opposite Ban Zaan freshmarket and next to JungCeylon.
I wonder how they are going to keep the rain from blowing in under a heavy rainstorm!?
Downstairs are the beerbars called "Tiger Complex 2" there are more beerbars under construction in the building next door.

Surely Croc had 10 years from Jan after the tsunami that was the lease that had money raised to outbuy.. But that money of course got cold (wet) feet..

By my reckoning 4. something years back ?? So 5.5 years from now to Jan 1 2015.

In Soi Sunset where my bar is I am sitting facing a derelict street,with an empty Valhalla and five Rai of vacant property.You could fit the entire Bangla complex in to here.:tux:

Unfortunately the land owner is quite content to sit on it for a good while longer.:yipi:

Dont like to pour cold water on bar owners in existing contracts ... but if master land holder sells the land (like that which happened in Sukhumvit Rd) then the existing bar holder sub leases could rapidly become worthless.

Over the long term its inevidable that virtually all of Bangla will cease to be 'naughty' - its barely possible anyway for most bar owners to be profitable with the exorbitant lease rates and key money.

Add to that the Mayor (of Patong) building Tiger 2 and the development along Soi San Sabai - makes every sense for up market hotels/retail to take over Bangla.

Agreed.. However contract leases are readily enforceable only for 36 months.. After that they should be registered on a land title which I bet my back teeth none of the head leases are..

So already a 10 year lease is on shaky legal footing if it was to be contested anyway. Not that this is how it happens in the real world either. Those who run the town do as they please and make and break their 'investors' or 'partners' as they see fit.

always rumours about moving bangla (bars etc.) in its entirety and making hotels there instead

leases (registered or not) would be totally useless if the freeholders decided they wanted to flatten it all

big pay day then (and double up by providing alternative area for nighlife - at a price)

'bangla' doesn't need to be in its current location

Is that the "Night Station" Soi they closed? Dam... just about all my bar girl fines used to work in that Soi.. always had hidden gems... I haven't been in Patong for a year and a half.. when did it close? :
