I live in Sweden And i usually get the 1 year Multi Entry Tourist visa for 660 sek. Thats around 680 rmb or around 110 usd

Interesting discussion. 30 AUD is about 200 rmb (today's exchange rate). Here in The Netherlands a single entry tourist visa is 35 euros (at the CN embassy) and that is about 300 rmb.
If the information on the below mentioned website is correct then the charge for the same visa in the US is now USD 140 and that equals about 930 rmb .

We are talking money all the time, so, how much? If you complain about the high cost for American citizens, then I want to know how high are the fees.

The higher fees were a retaliatory move by china a few years ago when the US put up visa fees for chinese citizens. Me, in OZ, I pay AUD30 for my visa.

I was born in Canada and moved to the USA. btw, you're not paying attention. Never said I didn't want to pay for a visa. I'm asking WHY so much higer fees for an American citizen while everyone else pay s less.

I'm a USA citizen, why is it so expensive for a USA citizen to obtain a visa?

you fly the Canadian flag.. So, what is the hassle?

However, in my view it is easiest to go to the consulate/embassy and just apply for a visa - even if only as a tourist.

Cost should be no more than 40 Euros if you are prepared to give your passport away for 1 week.

Then you have the visa as you like to have it and can still move around in Shenzen as you please. There will be nobody who will impair your moves, as long as you don´t do anything stupid.

But why should you, I guess, all of us on this forum are really reasonable folks.

Seems like China isn't very user friendly if you're a USA citizen. I'm having 2nd thoughts.

Not with a US passport. I am not sure about other countries. Check the Chinese Embassy in your country.

But if you go from HK to Shenzhen, you can still apply the 5-day Special Economic Zone Visa at the border station Lo Wo - is it correct

Hong Kong is easy to get a visa if you can burn a day there. Almost all the hotels will have a travel service or concierge that can do it for you in a day. Just remember to download a form, fill it out, have a passport picture, make sure you have at least two blank pages and you passport does not expire for at least six months.

Drop the stuff off in the morning, have a good day in Hong Kong and pick it up when you come back before dinner...

You won't even be able to board the plane to go there without the visa in place. Have your travel agent do it for you when you book your plane ticket. It's only about $20 extra and they do the whole thing quickly and painlessly.

No visa = no entry; and "visa on arrival" does not exists.
If you come in via Hong Kong then it is of course possible to go the embassy in HK for the application. Same day pick up is possible but will cost you more.
Do not forget to download the application form first and fill in before you go there; and don't forget the photo .

Without visa you have no way to come in.

You can get visa at the Chinese Embassy or at Chinese Consulates.

If you come on a business-trip, you usually are asked to present an invitation by a Chinese company.

If you plan to work in China (e.g. service-mechanic working there on a plant for several weeks), then you have to give detailed information about the work you pan to do , where, when etc.

For tourist-visa I don´t know.
