I'd say I've changed the way I hobby. Started when COVID hit but the economy has a role in it I guess. I realized that I was pissing away too much money on mediocre experiences.

Now I have a set of regulars.

2 legit MPAs.
1 semi spa owner with holistic benefits.
1 civie ex MPA.
2 divorced civies who just want some occasional company. No strings.

This is what works for me. But everyone's situation is different.

It had been a week since OP started this. Being very anal with numbers, I had decided to do a weekly spend on my hobbying expenses.

Let's say it had been an eye opener and leave it at that. Not being on a fixed income and with lots of disposal income, the numbers are still - to say the least quite revealing.

I think there is a fine line between treating this as some occasional fun, and an unhealthy addiction. The moment that you borrow against a line of credit, credit card or other to fund a visit, or if your mind goes in circles and you become irritable with friends and family for lack of seeing a girl, it is probably time for some soul searching or a firm kick in the backside. I've been there 30 years ago and learned that lesson the hard way. As with everything live within financial means, for some that means a visit once a month, others once a day and twice on Sunday Myself I find that I often don't do this for weeks or months, too busy with work and hobbies (building model dioramas, aviation) and that's just fine. So to the point, if inflation goes up and financial means become less, adjust accordingly.

I did some bartering (photo shoot) and got some discounts. I would do the photo shoot for free given the girls flash at me while i took the photos lol

Yeah, I've done some computer work with a few spas & got behind the curtain... that's fun! Trying to type on some mpa's ipad while bored girls in lingerie decide 2 sit in my lap ...

But as a biz proposition... vague discounts offered... then mysteriously withdrawn... better off actually doing contract work & using the funds 4 fun...

Inflation is everywhere. I am very fortunate because I still own and run a company that is doing well.
I am over 70. No wife, ex-wives, or children to support. 1 kid who works for google and makes more money then me.
Car, gas etc all expensed by company. Too bad I cannot expensed this hobby.
Not asset building. Not leaving any inheritance. Not sure how many more years I have but I am going to enjoy this ride as long as I can

I knew a guy that used to work for GM military division, he was the head welder and he usually wants to the United States to teach people down there how to weld properly at least that's what he told me. The kicker is that he bought lottery tickets with the company corporate card. He spend hundreds of dollars every month for a while after that he may have gone somewhere else.

Inflation. For those of you who knows Spa Owners. Ask them what are they paying for 1 gallon of Unscented Massage Oil.
We supply a lot of this to one of the major Distributor of Spa Products. - I am quite sure, based on their volume, they must supply to at least 80% of the spas in the GTA that uses this oil.
Since the beginning of this year, the price has gone up 30%.

Probably gutter oil.
