Bangla... Smell??

I really think this needs to be discussed in a new thread and something should be done. Why does Bangla have to smell so bad??? It is really affecting the experience of a lot of people. I just had a group of friends (12) that stayed in Soi san sabai and the just would not stop going on about the rubbish and smell. These guys are not a bad bunch but they swear they will never come back because of how bad the place smells and how dirty it all is. So many people mention it now.

I really think it is going to have a major effect or repeat visits and referrals. Why let the rubbish pile up all night and why not invest in some venting systems to get the smell out of the road? I can put up with it but by world standards it is just disgusting!

i firat came to patong in 99.it smelled then and it still smelt when i went there 2 weeks ago........

too many tourist producing too much crap would be the main problem.if your mates don't come back at least they will be helping the problem just a little.

oh how i miss the nightly ritual of covering the drains with wet newspapers or sacks to try to keep the stink down.

I must admit myself Steve that is was a good post and sure less people would help the problem but I was thinking of a solution that would kill the smell and not the local economy. And I really think it has got worse. On the rubbish front... why not have a crew of Garbo’s that remove the rubbish every half hour or so. Would only cost each bar about 10 Baht a night to get this done.

Ive sat at a bar on quite a few occasions and couldn't smell the Bangla pong due to the Farang sitting next to stinking more.

Its just something you end up getting used to when in Bangla. If you don't/can't then its prob best to head out of the tropics.

The trash is removed quickly these days. Never piled up like in the past, a way to be safe from bombs I guess.

But the drain can be stinking on some parts of Bangla. I dont mind to much as I just walk past it in one second.

I always think its positively fragrant here compared to Pattaya. Garbage men in patong do 2 runs a day, are overworked (some have been doing 20 hour days due to recruiting problems-but can't find the article about it) underpaid and under-resourced. Surely some of the hotel room tax and other forms of tax collected in Patong (other than tea money) could be diverted into providing a better service. I remember when a job on the bins in Canada or the UK was coveted, especially now with wheelie bins and electric hoists. hey used to get prisones from the jail in phuket town to go along cleaning the storm drains but this seems to me another thing that has gone by the wayside. The big problem with the sewerage and storm drain system in patong is the high water table and nothing is going to fix that. 20 years ago when it was dirt roads there was little or no smell- we are victims of our own success. Tourism grew without a proper increase in infrastructure, although the water treatment works in Patong brought more systems on line in 2007.

Must agree have to drive down Bangala sometimes in the morning for work have to old me breath down there , like sewage with old beer smell ,nice ....
Though in low season not so many punters and a lot of rain it all clears up I love low..season:thumbsup:

Awesome... Farting. Good subject. Is it just my experience or do Thai girls love or hate farting? The ones I have known have either though it is the most disgusting thing on earth to do in public or wet their pants with laughter! Never met anyone in between.
