That depends on the way the approach building the app. If like the UK they try building a centralized data app (and by definition unable to access the functionality Google/Apple have made available) then yes, it could be used for surveillance. The UK ended up abandoning that app earlier this week because of the incompetence of the development group -- they couldn't actually get it to work.

If they used a decentralized approach, complying with the Google/Apple protocols (endorsed by ACLU and EFF) then there's no workable way to use it for surveillance.

You're aware that pretty much all the data needed to surveil you is already available on your mobile? Do you use SMS, Facebook, Maps/GPS, fitness apps (e.g., Strava), or a slew of other apps? Then you've already given anyone who knows what they're doing the keys to your location and communications. Two examples: Strava data was used to identify a Secret Service agent on Trump's personal detail. Knowing that, they were able to place Trump's exact position in real-time. Bicycle share data in London has been used to extract information on individual travel activity and in one experiment identify a person's primary abode and also their lover's. Both examples were done as experiments using readily available commercial data sources.

Each owner will have decide what is best for them and keep the best interest of the client in mind. Until it becomes a law, really slim chance of that happening in my mind.
Your right.. Cash is King... and for a few brief hours, she makes me feel like a King. that will motivate owners to stay put.

The bigger legit and semi legit will be more proactive with following the govt guidelines but the smaller Holistic places will probably bend the rules to keep making money,desparate times bring desparte measures.
Most of these Holistic places are just fuck shops as we all know.
Some are better than others finding the gems is why we Hobby.

your right I think for the tracing aspects. As for gems, sometimes being in the right place at the right time is all it takes.
I took a chance year ago on a review I read here and it worked out better than I could have imagined. Then took the advice of KL_FUNGUY and found 3 or 4 faves to keep as regulars. Its been a blast this last year (except for covid). have invites a to few faves places, no std's or anything like that and a real appreciation for the ladies that keep us all happy campers. Here's to a fresh start (post covid) - heading out to her house soon..

Get it right, Public Health orgs do not need your personal info to do good digital contact tracing if they follow the standards set by Apple, and Google and approved by the ACLU. In fact, there's no way to get that info using those standards. It's the thing that the UK devs moaned about most -- that they couldn't get that info.

They are not required by law to collect your info the Govt is suggesting you do to assist with tracing,there are all kinds of apps for tracing poeple and geolocation available to law enforcement if nesesary, I am merely stating that I don't think spas will be on board reporting to any calls from contact tracers.

Which specific government is asking that? Not here in Ontario, and not the federal gov't as it's a provincial matter.

I've pointed out earlier in the thread that gov'ts and non-governmental orgs already have the means to track and surveil individuals if that's what they want to do. They don't need to use yet another app to do that, and the only working process for DCT actually prevents it (and even there, hardly anyone has actually launched an app on that process.

Heck with today's already in place technologies, a modest budget, and good data scientist you could be tracking almost anyone or any group you wanted..

Assistance isn't the same thing as using a DCT app as a surveillance device. The UK gov't just spent 5 months trying to build that sort of app and it failed. Fell apart because the 2 main phone OS orgs refused to allow access to their systems in that way . The only viable DCT app path runs through Apple/Google and their focus in this instance is on anonymity and privacy. You should do more than read the news: read the technical docs, or change your news sources as it doesn't sound like they understand it. To be fair non-technical news sources almost always get it wrong.

You could start with looking at what the ACLU says in support of the Apple/Google approach.
