is this a scam? model malaysia?

Hi everyone

Obviously we are all aware there are scammers out there but also have to balance that with the prospect of losing genuine business.

Has anyone else received an email purporting to be from a Miss Coleman, model from Malaysia, coming to 'my' area (and possibly yours !) and seeking prices?

Just curious and bit loathed to reply especially as its an older email address thats been contacted and my details would be on my website.

I've had exactly the same email and thought it didn't sound real.

It's probably a scam, I have heard something similar before although I can't seem to lay my hands on the details right now. I'm not sure precisely how it works but it takes advantage of how the banking system works, i.e. a funds transfer appears on your account as a credit before the transfer is complete.

It goes something along the lines of you give them a price, they book a course of sessions, they want to pay in advance direct into your account, they pay too much into your account, you see the credit in your account and point out the error and they ask you to forward the difference to another account, then their transfer is rejected but yours is in progress - by the time you report it and the bank takes action, they've already withdrawn the cash from the other account and done a runner. Your protection against this is minimal as you willingly made the transfer, and also the receiving account being in a remote country.

Something like that anyway.......

Hi I recieved an email from this women just a few days ago, thought it must be a scam as said she was in my area but never once actually named the area, so ignored it. So its reassuring to know I'm not actually ignoring a potential real client.

I've had quite a few of these, don't touvh anything like this with a bargepole. I get some customers who book via email, but as soon as they ask if they can pay directly into your bank, as these usually do, ignore them.

Don't reply is my advice if in doubt. Why it is relevant to say they are a model from Malaysia is notthe normal way of asking for prices after all why should you care.

Many policies wont let you treat famous people. There is no way that a manager would blindly ask someone to treat someone worth so much on paper. Referrals only or in person interview. Consider where you live, is it likely that a model would be stopping there and is your location prominent enough? I can't see someone like that going to a sole trader running from their own home.. it just wouldn't happen.

Hi yes I too got this email last week and thought that it had to be spam. I do get emails from clients but when I read it I just thought why would a model want to come to me?? Looks like quite a few of us received it x
