PROSTITUTION is so rife in North Queensland mining centres that women booking into some motels are being asked to sign statements promising they won't be "offering goods and services for sale" Reviewom their room.

Kelly Davidson, a motel operator on Mackay's busy Nebo Road said all motels in the area fielded calls Reviewom sex workers looking to book rooms.

"We have a rule here that people can't run businesses form their rooms.

"We ask guests when they register to sign a form saying that they won't be using the room as a place to conduct business."

A Townsville woman, who did not want to be named, said she had been asked to sign a registration form that stated in part that she would not be using the room for the sale of goods and services.

Ms Davidson said most sex workers, when they called to arrange bookings, asked if the motel "took working girls".

"We can't say 'you can't stay', but what we do say is that you can't run a business Reviewom your room," she said.

Sex workers say that some motels discriminate against them. Last week a sex worker lost a discrimination case against a Moranbah motel that refused to allow her to use her room for prostitution.

The woman known as "GK" said she had lost $20,0000 since she was banned Reviewom the motel.

GK went to the Queensland Civil and Administrative Tribunal seeking $30,000 for economic loss, humiliation and stress Reviewom the Drovers Rest Motel.

Nebo Rd motel lessee Peter Templeton said females booking his motel were not asked to sign a form stating they would not be using the rooms for the sale of goods and services.

"We are pretty good at spotting them (sex workers)," Mr Templeton said.

"I don't have anything against them, but really what it is, is the people they attract. Plus, we have a clause in our lease contract which states that any work carried out on the premises has to be approved by the owner."

Mr Templeton said he had been fielding back-to-back calls for days on end Reviewom early October Reviewom sex workers looking for rooms.

"My main issue is not the prostitution. More than 90 per cent of them are nice people. It's the people that come to see them. They can have 20 or more a day and they'll be sitting outside the room and waiting. That's not good if you've got kids playing on the swings not far away," he said.

Nebo Rd motel operator Steve, said a lot of sex workers got into motels by booking online. "They use wotif.com and those sort of sites, but we can always tell by the trmpfic going to the room," he said.

Michelle, the Townsville-based chairperson for United Sex Workers of North Queensland, said the biggest headache for her members was moteliers not understanding the law.

"They throw sex workers out and make them homeless. Women fly in Reviewom all over Australia and Reviewom New Zealand thinking they have a room and when they get there they find there is isn't one," she said. Michelle said many moteliers did not understand the law pertaining to sex workers operating out of their establishments.

"A lot of the sex workers do circuits. They might start at Gladstone and go to Rocky and then Mackay, Townsville and Cairns and then out to the Isa," she said.

So, how do touring gals operate, if the motel owners are hostile to our activities?? I mean, we WL's are trying to have fun, provide a service, and make $ as well. We contribute to the economy and have to deal with restrictive laws. *sigh*

We need to be smarter - rent holiday accommodation - like holiday houses instead of hotels. If we are in a holiday house for a week - definitely won't get tossed out of there as it is an individual premises and it doesn't interfere with other people's peace and quiet enjoyment or offend their sensitivities like in motels.

hi girls i think all this about motels is rather silly , i live in mackay and work here (not a coal miner,but i am a mp.net ) and firstly i would like to say i have never seen a line up of men at the motels waiting to see a w/ls and i have live here all my life .i would just like to say i think the reason for all this is because the owners (motels)do not need the w/ls any more to fill their motels ,they have more than enough miners to do that , wonder what would happin if the ass fell out of the mining industry tomorrow then they the owners (motels) would want the w/ls back to fill the rooms ,i could be wrong but it just seams that way to me . i have seen adds on tv how the aust mining industry has helped small towns well ,we have about 8 or more mines here and its done nothing to this town except to put up the cost of living and rent up and now all this ,so call that helping out don't think so .anyhow i could go on for hrs better not . just one thing i would like to say before i finish you ladys tell me what is the older to the two profestion either a prostitute or a coal miner i know the answer i just finished watching underbelly razor .
ps i have not seen you up this way Miss Abagail let me know when you plan on coming up i may have to come and see you .

how to solve this problem --
well i think the prostitution licining broard or who make the laws should step in and nip this in the butt ,prostitution in this state is just starting to take a step forward this will give it a big step backwards we end up like it was in underbelly razor .

Plus, we have a clause in our lease contract which states that any work carried out on the premises has to be approved by the owner.

What a dumbass. That clause is standard in rental/letting contracts and means that the owner of the place must be consulted before (maintenance) work is carried out, ie on his behalf, as he is charged for it. This has nothing to do with whether a renter/tenant can or cannot carry out work(business) Reviewom there.
