I know the key largo is a bar/club but they only play spanish music.

Need a place to hit up in the wee hours of the morning after a session.

Come on DildoMan, don't point this guy to El Pueblo, especially by himself. He stands a very good chance to get his ass kicked, robbed, or seriously hurt. Never go alone and I say that for everyone including you Dildo. Yes, you can have fun there even though its gotten lamer and lamer, but it comes at a price. Dangerous spot for sure and the last place I go to dance and listen to music in Costa Rica.

Another vote for Vertigo, but I've never heard hip-hop there. The lounge area plays what the ticos call electrónica - trance, acid/death trance, progressive house, gothic, techno, etc. The main floor is ginormous but only opens when they have a headliner act -- hasn't been open the last 4 or 5 times I've been there.

Hip Hop close to the Gulch? Hmm. Ebony and Friends in EP sometimes have hip-hop night during the week. Never go to El Pueblo by yourself, and especially do not go there alone, drunk and/or high.

Gaira, Club Prive, Blue Illusion, Tragaldabas and maybe Fiesta Casino are other clubs / dance lounges you might want to check out.

Guess where you can find a lot of hidden talent in SJO? Especially if you know how to dance and speak a little Spanish.

Sometimes it pays to get out of the Gulch for a while. Try it sometime, you might be pleasantly surprised.

Guys who go for longer trips often want a break from the "get up, go to hdr, have sex, get drunk, pass out... repeat" experience. You will definitely meet a different girl in some of the non-monger-laden venues than in the usual haunts. Most guys I know who visit for more than a few days take a break for one of the volcanoes, zipline, escazu, jaco; and sometimes they just want a taste of home or something different.

Your points are well taken gents. I actually am doing a zip tour next week when I come down. I suppose it would be true to break up the "routine" if I stayed longer than 3 or 4 days, unfortunately my work schedule doesn't allow it.

Hola gentlemen. We found what for me was a new place with live music, it's called La Observatorio. It's not far from the hospital close to the SL, go east a few blocks and then south a few from SL. The other way to find it is on the return from the San Padro Mall taking the main street (divided) back towards San Jose. The road curves right (going north) headed to the hospital Calderon. It's just a few yards after you make the right turn.

Packed on a Saturday night with all locals, live band, good singers. It has different themes on different nights. For example, kareokee on Tuedays.

El Pueblo isn't that dangerous, just don't go as an obvious gringo. (shorts, sandals, Hawaiian shirt) I see those guys getting into shit every time I am there.
