Nightlife in Kata beach

Hello all,

Im new to this forum and have been reading a while here now.
Janary the 26th im going to Phuket and stay at a hotel in Kata beach.
Now i was wondering because all of the nightlife happens north of kata in Patong.

Would it be easy and not so expensive to travel to patong everynight and if i accidently meet a BG to take her with me down to Kata?

I was searching the forums but could not find much about nightlife in Kata, is it possible to go out here and party in the early hours?

I have no information for you regarding Kata, but most probably other BM's will give you some advise.
Also try to use the search function. It may bring you to som posts, which might answer your question.
Anyway, have fun studying here and of course also during your tour. And don't forget to post your trip report, preferably with some pics .

'Kata Beach has a small but quite well-rounded nightlife scene. The bars are nearly all concentrated along Taina Road, from Kata Corner down to Patak Road. Other favourites in Kata are the Bluefin Tavern and the Reggae Bar on the beach at its southern end.'

I guess that if you want to maat a BG your best chance is to go to patong. Why did you choose to go to Kata anyway?

Welcome to the board. :cheers:
I am not sure of the night life in Kata.
I will be staying in Karon Beach in early February and plan on commuting to Patong. A tuk-tuk ride from Karon is about 200 baht and I would think that Kata is about 50 baht more as it is just south. I am not sure of the night life in Karon either, but understand there are some good bars around, I will see when I get there. Any additional information is welcome.

I choose for Kata because i booked a packet at an travel agency before i knew much about Phuket . First 2 days i will be in BKK then we go with night train to koi somui where we will be for another three days for the last 9 nights we have a hotel located in Kata. Im sure next time i will only book a flight ticket because now i am stuck at that hotel because i payed all in advance.

hehe and im going with a friend, we will be in the same hotel room hope we can change that to seperate rooms

Hi and welcome to the board.

First it is worth checking to see of your hotel is guest friendly or not. My experience is that package holiday hotels tend not to be (There are some exceptions to this rule tho) If your budget allows you maybe its worth looking into booking a cheap hotel in Patong for a few days and use you Kata Hotel as a base and to stow your luggage if your hotel is not guest friendly. (Email your hotel and see what they say)

If the email says that they are guest friendly then keep and print otu that email and take it with you incase they cause a fuss.

Hello and welcome to the Board.
Your decision to choose Kata Beach is very good – in my point of view.
You have a very nice Beach, not as overcrowded and loud as Patong Beach.
The Nightlife is ok; there are more than 40 Girl bars all over Kata, many Pool bars and a lot of Restaurants with very good food. There are plenty of Massages for your delight as well.
The Prices in Kata are about 15 % cheaper than in loud and full of Traffic Patong.
Im sure you will like it a lot.

i just got an email from them, dont think they are guest friendly if they charge 500 baht per visitor a night :complain: thats half the price of the BG.

Yes Yupha, that sounds very attractive indeed especially the beaches, i dislike overcrowded beaches.
And with the 40 Girl bars think there will be enough BG for the two of us :happyi:

Kata is great!

First the bg's are more reasonable then in Patong. Never been asked more then 1000 bath. There are different area's in Patong everything is more concentrated.

The best was this year the barscene area, on the mainroad, just outside Kata-center, before club Med. There is an area, with a swimming pool between the bars, ask for this, everybody knows.

In Karon, there is a small area, where there are not so many pretty girls, but I found the prettiest one of this now past solo-trip. Hire a bike, go around, and the chase begins!

The change to find your choice is equal to Patong. You just have to be lucky to find the right one. Lately I did not take girls in Patong, because, when you like a girl to stay a few days, they always prefer not to be too far from the bar where they work.

For a girlfriendly hotel, look at the accomadation section. I posted a post about the full moon.

Tin Tin is talking about the new Night Bazaar area. Indeed a nice spot. Did you speak to Nan by the way tin tin, believe she has 2 bars in that area

I'm quite surprised to hear that. My experience has been that Patong is generally cheaper since you have much more choice. Cheaper guesthouses, cheaper food-stalls and restaurants, etc. Ok, some beer bars on Bangla are charging more, but by and large I cannot really see the difference. You also have the Nanai area. I would've thought that Kata in general was more expensive than Patong for "basic necessities". Haven't lived in either of these areas for years though.

The nightlife in Kata is fine. Also, since it more of a family oriented beach there is less competition for the available girls.

If you tend to like being away from the hustle and bustle of Patong, so do the girls that work in the beer bars/pool bars of Kata... and other non-Patong beaches...

Again, I'm not really disagreeing, only that it is contrary to my experience.

I lived for a year up on Nanai (in 2002) and found that it had an abundance of cheap places and restaurants / bars. I've also spent some time down in Kata now to try locate a place for parents and I must say I found the hotels / guesthouses to be fairly steep these days.

But then again, I've been wrong before...

I personally prefer Karon beach, but the only reason realy is that the beach in Kata is so damn boring, have to walk like 200 meters out to even be able to swim. While in Karon it gets deep realy fast. Maybe im just lazy :embrassed

Whenever I have a fight with my Thai g/f, I take myself of to Karon for a few days.
Karon beer bars, imo, are a bit boring but there is a strip between Karon and Kata that has a bunch of very lively bars.
I have always enjoyed myself there and the prices are much cheaper than Patong.

Karon, being bigger (and longer) has more to offer. Kata has it's bright spots though. I guess you could call it the same when compared to Patong.
