Police closed Bangla at 02 am tonight

Has Sweden gotten any better? I remember the Swedes invading Copenhagen on the weekends to get some decent beer.

The problem is I never have a hangover and the same things you like to do at 3am can also be done at 6am in my opinion

When I first went to Patong all the Bangla Bars closed at 02.00 and everyone just walked up the street to Soi Sunset. The bars there basically "kicked off" at about 01.00 and carried on all night , many still going strong at 06.00.

When they eventually closed it down (to refurbish Tai Pan and build Thailife) the Bangla bars started staying open later. Drinking habits changed , as people went out a bit earlier , which I guess will happen again if the bars are made to close at 02.00.

Sounds familiar - guaranteed any crackdown on what is usually taken as a given in Japan has something to do with outside (or perceived outside) attention/scrutiny. We've got an Olympic bid for Tokyo in the pipe line, expect some heavy handed policing (homeles people evicted fron shelters in the parks for example) before the Olympic committee come visit.

Im sure when I first went the beer bars would stay open as long as you were drinking and just slipped the bar man some extra baht when you left..I cant recall being asked to leave cause they were closing..remember sitting there with some mates while all the other bars had when and truly shut up shop for the night..probaly wrong maybe just to drunk to know what we were doin back then..

I suppose It would depend on yur intention at the club.

Absolutely right. Went out tonight and it was total chaos in the streets.

But frankly, I would not really mind the bars / discos closing at 2 (or maybe 3) as long as it’s CONSISTENT. These days I usually go to the discos around 1, just because that’s the time they start rocking, and they’re open until 4. If they fill up earlier, I will go earlier. Now: confused.

Haven’t been back in Norway for a few years now, but are the “regulations” --- compared to Sweden --- really that different?

Used to go to Stockholm every now and then and there was not much difference in terms of closing hours. Of course, when it comes to prices… well that’s a whole ‘nother ballgame.

I refer you to the thread .."Does Patong ever sleep"..where it would seem the pendulum had swung a little too far the other way ...I agree consistency is the problem.

2 is fine with me, I pick up my little lady the first evening I'm in Patong, and after that not much going to the bars.
She will stay with me in the hotel, spend time in the pool, and down to Chiang Rai seafood for dinner, and perhaps a few drinks, and then back to the hotel bar (Phuket Palace) for a drink and enjoy the music from the band.

but i suppose it would depend on what you are drinking. mine's a whiskey!

If you can do the samething at 6am then also good job.

I just like having more time for :love: fun. but each to his or her own.

but generally to this post I would say we have to respect the law of the land. We also have to respect the country's culture, custom and religion. Unless of course you believe Patong was created only for you to drink and have fun with BGs (or whatever ) then complain till the cows come home. (actually I am not this serious guys, just some thoughts)


maybe they could extend the hours on Friday and Saturdays.

Also if the extra money spent by tourists in the wee hours finds its way back into the economy then it might be a good idea for special tourists area laws. but who ever said officials do the wise thing.

I'm not sure if it is relevant to Phuket bar closings, but the police in Bangkok shut everything down by 2am on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Even the big late night spots that are allegedly owned by police...all closed at 2am.

Noticed many says just start earlier if they close at 2.

I really dont like this forced regulation.
Regulations is one of the reasons i left my old country. If i on occasion want to drink in a bar until very late thats an opportunity i appreciate to have.
And you have the caos that occurs when everything closes at the same time.
I tried to get hold of some food last night after closing. Soi sansabai was overpacked. Managed to track down some in Valhalla in the end.. Great food in there BTW.

Anyway, this will never last so no reason for panic.

Ofcourse Swedish youngsters love Denmark, 16 years old to buy alcoholic beverages compared to Sweden's 20 years old. (18 for bars and pubs)

I also went to Copenhagen when I was 16 or 17 with my schoolmates...

Sound fair enough. They know they are between a rock and a hard place.

No chance of getting the laws updated while there isn't a proper fed gov.

I still think the bars and clubs were pushing it too far. Everyone seemed happy enough with closing around 3am.

The "late" opening was not any more "in your face" than its been for a very long time. This was probably a temporary crackdown for various reasons. Anyway its over for now.

On a negative note this is playing hell with my sex life. Mistimed it last nite and went home alone. The positive side is I have more money to spend today now. Yippee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
