Thai doormen/Thai guys looking for fights

I accidentally got into a fight with a tuk tuk driver once and was helped by a group of Thais. It was the only trouble I've ever had here with anyone though, which isn't too bad for teh amount of time I've been here. Its certainly no more dangerous IMO than back home.

No, they are not SIA acredited either, the ones in the UK are, that won't stop you getting a kicking if you up for one though. If he is bigger than you he will do it himself, if not and you look a bit handy, he'll get a couple of mates along.........ALA Thailand! Not rocket science!

There was a youtube up (its been removed) of bouncers from a club beating the guys, then when they go down the whole pack start kicking them in the head, then while totally KO'ed they are still kicking the comatose heads.. All on camera and laughing about it.. Do that on camera back home and its ABH and a spell at her majesties pleasure.

Yeah are are vastly more liekly to get in to fight with another tourist if you act 'normally', than you ever are with a Thai.

There's an 80Kg Muai Thai instructor who runs security in Kamlalala who wouldn't walk away from anyone.

How is a 'door' in Thailand any different to a 'door' in any holiday destination in the World? Try picking a fight on an 'expat' run door in Tenerife and see how many dead legs crawl from under their rocks to get a kick or sly punch in.

If dickheads can't handle their ale and start a fight outside a nightclub then I expect they will get what they get as I would expect to.

Do the Thai bouncers start the fights? No, course they don't.

Thousands of people walk into and out of nightclubs in Thailand every week, month, year. I do, hassle free, not a problem.

There is normally an underlying reason why someone is getting a kicking. Talk to a UK copper if you know any and ask what they do when called to nightclub fights especially if they are in their 40's and those fighting are teenagers or in their 20's.

IMHO Thailand is one of those countries that the blokes will do what they do. There are many, many others. Be a dickhead in a nightclub in Dubai, Athens, Mombasa and see what happens.....You won't be fighting them one at a time! Mombasa usually has a machete or two involved.......nice hospitals too!

If it is peoples nature to go upto a Thai bouncer and offer him out..........Your going to get what it says on the tin........Don't do it in the first place and be one of the thousands and thousands of holiday makers that leave Thailand having had a bloody brilliant time instead of a brilliant bloody nose.

Your miss understanding me.. You claimed it was just the same as bouncers back home.. It isnt, back in the uk a bouncer did that he would be doing time inside, in Thailand no ones punished. And while UK bouncers most certainly will deal a heavy hand, theres no way they keep kicking comatose bodys heads while they are laid out on the floor.. I have seen thais delivering beatings that are closer to attempted murder, but the cops just pick up the beaten person and thats the end of it.

Do Thais starts the fights ?? Depends, seen times when they definitely were the agitators, and seen many times when a thai will talk shit and act up in a way in a street full of Thais, that he wouldnt alone.. Is that starting something ?? It is when they are banking on only getting away with it through superior numbers.

Like the chicken shit that took a pop at me when my back was turned.. Was fine when there was 10 of them.. He was a lot less keen when his group wasnt there..

I was in a similar situation in hollywood when i was out with a tg and her bargirl friends, i was the only farang with 5 or 6 girls. 4 thai guys were on the next table. The girls became a bit nervous and i sensed something was about to happen.
Lucky for me my muay thai trainer who i had trained with every day for two weeks was the doorman and his sister was one of the girls. So i went up to him, explained the situation and he had a word with them. He told me 'don't worry' and everything was cool'.
I asked my girl later what was the guys problem. she said "they drunk, not like farang"

I think maybe you have been gone from the UK for to long or just brought up in different generations to myself but the days of fair fights where its just 1 on 1 and ends in the handshake are long gone. Maybe you are right about the british bouncers but generally the violence on english streets espeically after the pubs are shut is just as hardcore as you describe in LOS, maybe without the knife as much but seen really bad beatings with guys KOd long before they finish kicking them and they all were english!

As others have indicated, if you arrive in LOS with a good-natured, non-confrontational attitude and use common sense you should have no worries at all.

Maybe this is not a great analogy, but, I lived in Hawaii for several years and some(small %) of the locals(most of which are of various pacific island herieforum.xxxe such as Samoan, Tongan, Filipino and others) have a disdane for white people(haole). If you're a haole and are looking for trouble you will find it. If you're easy going and show respect for the islands and share aloha you will be accepted with open arms. You will still inevitably get "stink eye" from the hard core locals especially if you have a local gf(huge double standard), but if you keep your cool you will have no problems.


i also felt a similar reaction in Costa Rica when visiting there.

Common sense and a good attitude will defuse most situations. And, yes, as slampay mentioned, avoid the violent early morning fruit vendors55555. If you must, order your fruit then DUCK!!

I was involved in a fight in koh samui outside an outdoor nightclub a few trips back, safe to say i was pretty drunk at the time, the first blow came from a thai and came from behind, when i turned around there was more than one thai there,was not a nice experience. I was not exactly looking for trouble, but i was no angel either.
So dont look for trouble in thailand and you might not get it, look for trouble and you will definately get it!!

But we are talking about paid professional security.. Totally different.

I know a bunch of guys who did clubland / rave security and doors.. They were pros, and even the wilder ones, would get legally dealt with if they dished out that kind of violence, on camera, in the street, in front of the club.

I wish the youtube vid was still up.. You would see what I mean.. A pack of 15 - 20 guys kicking a bunch of unconscious bodies around for a while and laughing about it.. Taking run up kicks to the head, etc etc..

The 'youtube' clip I was looking for seems to have gone of the guy on a zebra crossing in the UK. Everyone who passes him takes a kick. One actually stomps him. Your not telling me they all had a greivance against the unconcious bloke?

If you think it is a Thai trait fair enough! I don't. I know everyone is capable and have seen it for myself in various locations. Jumping in and trying to stop it is a whole new different thread and has been covered here in the n'th degree.

My lad was kicked unconcious by a certain ethnic minority in the UK. That was robbery admittedly but one of them could have robbed him. The one with the knife.

I read of unprovoked ethnic minority bashing without the drugs and alcohol influence. Why do they do it? I don't know.

Everytime I hear of someone getting one in the mush from a Thai there has been something underlying.

As for 'licensed' doormen, tell me about 'em. I turn them down for work week in, week out. I am SIA accredited and therefore able to work 'doors' - No thank you! Too many pissed up apaches out there wanting to take on the world and then wondering why they bothered once they have sobered up in their hospital beds. If people want accredited and trained doormen it's a pretty pointless exercise looking for them the often banded about Third World Country.

Some blokes just don't like authority of any kind, be that a Policeman or the bloke stood on a door counting how many people are entering and leaving an establishment.

Like I said, never had a problem. Sawadee Khap them on the way in and Khop Khun Khap them on the way out.

There's obviously lots of similarities between thailand and the west. What is different, is that thai's can be all nice and smiley and then change quickly -in the west, those who cause grief tend to just snarl all of the time. the point being, for a newbie, thai's can appear to be a push over.

never had any probs with thai doormen and they seem to be quite chilled. big difference again is that you have a chance in the west to communicate properly with uk doormen -i'm not sure if thai ones would give you the opportunity to back away. of course, being a dribbling mess in either country won't help.

i think we have a few gripes with thai males cus these are our holidays! we expect everyone to be in the holiday spirit and unfortunately that is not always the case.

Don't worry, as soon as the Ex-Spetsnaz Chechen Veterans arrive in their smart Armani suits and discrete tazers the punters will move in and out of the nightclubs like little lambs.

I doubt very much they'll be licensed either but will have found away around it!
