Be careful. Be sensible....unlike me who went out with all his money and cards and got very pissed....and got pick pocketed

Split your cards and money.....don't go out with too much.

This country gives you a false sense of security I think, but there's thieves just like anywhere.

Still love the place and the people though. (twas me own fault)

Hopefully the international banking system will sort me out quickly.

Just to add it isn't only Bangla that is an area to be careful. There have been a few people robbed on Nanai recently at least two of them senior citizens.

The ploy of pretending to do a display of Thai kick boxing which allows the thief to get close to the target and dip their pockets is being used.

Not going out with any more cash and cards than necessary is just common sense.

Getting so wasted you don't know what's going on just increases the chance that someone will take advaneforum.xxxe of the opportunity.

I read somewhere that many pants have large enough (deep enough) pockets that you can twist the pockets 180 degrees, making it almost impossible for anyone to do the pickpocket thing.

Heard about another one on Nanai last night. Elderly gentlemen caught short whilst walking to the market. Nipped into a small dark soi to relieve himself and was immediately approached with the Muay Thai scam. His wallet was gone and the thief away before he knew what was going on.

its a given in any city in the world to only take out what you need and if you need more nip back to loom safe and get it...thats the only way my ex tgf came in handy i put all the cash in her bag and she paid the bar bills etc during the night a Thai woman with cash will never get ripped off she may rip you off but we never got scammed once and the bar bills are always correct.

Noticed a anumber of dippers around the outside of the crowds when they were watching the free 'shows' on Bangla.

There is a number of threads on this over the forum. Is there a warning post in the newbie stickies? As Crusty and myself had to explain some of the scams and how often it happens to another bm, who had been there a number of times. Think it should be if its theres not.resent:

Depending on your pants, it either works well or not. If you can comfortably twist your pocket 180 degrees, and it stays there, a pickpocket's never going to get your wallet out without first turning the whole pocket around, which you're quite likely to notice long before he gets to your wallet. You might be right, but you'll never find your wallet missing.

That might keep you happy, but I figure a couple more beers, and a nice lobster dinner, which means more like 800 baht. Maybe 500 if you like crab more than lobster (and if you know which restaurants to go to!). At any rate, round it all up to 1000, which means the worst that can happen if you do get robbed is US $30 or so...

You're missing the point though - it's not how much you carry with you, but rather not to carry more than whatever you're likely to spend. For most people, it will be much higher than it is for me. Whatever it is, round it upwards and that's how much to go walking around with.
