There is alot of people at massageplanet.net really pissed at the Toronto Star reporters but has anyone thought that the Police have a hand in this. The Police are understaffed and for them to control/investigate/bust all of the MP in the GTA is just not possible. The best way to pressure the mp is by creating fear for the potential customers of mps.

They do this all of the time by the sting operations in Parkdale. The U.S. Government used the media during the Gulf War and the War on Iraq (I know a different topic altogether). The media is a powerful tool. If the story didn't have any inpact on us hobbiests then why are we continuing the tread for so long? I have personally stopped going to mps because of the story. Some people will say "there is nothing to worry about". For some guys this is true, but when Healing Hands, which is a very low millege mp has 7 girls and 7 male customers is busted, I worry who is next on the Police's list.

I think all of the newspapers are sleeze, but don't be surprised if the Police had something to do with the story. It is a win/win both the Police (mp customer traffic decreases) and the Star (sells more papers = more $$).

Other than maybe attempting to present a public image of disapproving of MPs, I don't understand why you think they would have a goal of trying to decrease the number of customers.

The politicking the police do is always about one thing - give more of the people's tax money to the force. They will keep doing that no matter how much money they get or how many new officers are hired.

Publicly they will maintain the party line by saying they need more money for more staff to fight against these evil massage parlours, and I guess that could fit into your theory of them having something to do with The Star's series.

But it's all pure bovine fecal matter. With their current staff, they could get every MP in the city on bawdy house charges within a short time... if they really wanted to.

The newspaper column has disappeared from The Sun's web site, but see this thread on "Don't do it in 32 Division". It's six guys on the morality squad who successfully go after every MP and incall in their Division - hundreds of bawdy house charges. What's stopping the other divisions from doing the same thing?

Or this thread - somehow the greatly understaffed police were able to visit all of the more than 350 known MPs in the GTA, and question everyone in them, all in a single evening starting at 5:30 PM on December 18, 2003.

Hi, I'm mostly a lurker. Anyways, I thought the Star article was rather non-factual as well. I guess the thing is, the targets of this article can't/won't fight back because of the industry they are in, i.e. no chance of a slander lawsuit? The Star has nothing to fear.

If they were going to write a story on something, why not something legitimate like the asian and ee girls who are brought here under the guise of sponsorship, and end up forced to work (literally pimped which is sooo illegal) ?

They will be happy to take any type of holistic or body rub ad. Thus, acting as an advertising tool for holistic and body rub establishments! What a bunch of two faced, lying, deceiving, silly, money hungry idiots. If they where really sincere about there articles, they would ban these types of sex ads from there paper. But they know, they want all the extra cash they can get there greedy little hands on by accepting massage and escort ads. I think they should be sued by everyone in the business, and put them out of business!

Some of you are really stuck in a box here, huh? Sure, there are more important issues that need addressing/investigating/exposing (ie. health care, education), and sure, there may be some politics behind the timing of the story. That said, for those not in [what's been termed] "The Hobby", it's a pretty interesting read, no?

It's a business like any other. Gotta have product that sells. Sex sells, no? How better to take a shot at one of your competitors (The Sun), by not only getting a story out there that they won't do, but also possibily hurt there advertising revenue as a result (MP's get shutdown, they don't advertise in The Sun, I haven't looked in the Star for MP advertising, but I'm sure it's not as big market for them as it is for The Sun).

Like I said in a post weeks ago; the bar has been raised on the perceptions of what goes on in a Rub 'n Tug by the General Joe/Jane. More talk, more interest, more dirt.

My opinion for placing Blame:
(1) In Your Face Bold Operators who would open shop in high profile business areas or residental areas that draw much attention and eventual complaints. Add to that those who have the nerve to advertise on billboards. Most importantly, Liscensed Operators who can't control there shop (or maybe themsevles) and allow more than what the bar had been set at - out of greed. It's one thing when the police overlook a happy ending, but it gets real interesting when the spin is; "The City is in Bed with the Sex Trade".

(2) Us. The Client. Those in search of the GFE. Demand from the market what you are willing to pay for and it will come. How long your outlet for product lasts is another story.
