What have you experienced with Reiki?

    I am actually a reiki practitioner myself.  I frequently integrate massage therapy and reiki together in the same session.  This is particularly good for mental stress and for clients who suffer from severe lack of touch.  You can find my reiki page at http://home.att.net/~jnozum/Reiki.htm .  Some people who are uncomfortable with massage seem to do fine with reiki, since there is no actual movement of hands on the body during reiki.  Unlike massage therapy, the therapist's hands are held in one position often for 3-5 minutes at a time.     I found from my own personal research that it is not necessary to be "certified" or "initiated" in reiki to have some benefit.  However, this initiation workshop will help you become more effective.      I so have a word of warning regarding reiki:  BE SURE you are with God, for He is the one from whom this energy really comes from!  Stay away from the "new age" crap.  I would be leary of a reiki practioner that is not also a Christian.  A reiki practioner that is not a Christian may possibly be a snare for the client!From John Nozum

John,I read your e-mail and went to your website.  My feeling is that you have taken the information on Reiki and twisted it to your own purposes.  Basically stating that only Christians can truly practice Reiki is contrary to, first, Dr. Usui's teachings and,secondly, the understanding of, I dare say, the entire Reiki society.  It is completely untrue that a specific religious denomination somehow has God on it's side and everyone else who practices this is being spoken to by satan and will lead others to damnation.  You have distorted information, I believe, you know little about and will only cause confusion and divisiveness rather than harmony and peace.  Reiki is UNIVERSAL energy.  It can be said to come from God, who is universal energy, but is given to each and every one freely and equally.  It is not reserved solely for Christians.  I would urge you to reconsider your stand on this.Steve

Heh. "Christian reiki". Some people think they just OWN God/Love/Sanity/the Universe. If the words in previous posts have caused you any fear, I encourage you to find your answer within rather than from someone on a discussion board, and make the most peaceful choice you can.

I am a Level II Reiki practitioner. I am a very open minded person so when I had my Reiki I, I was ready. I didn't have any expectations and I came out more relaxed and glad I took the workshop.Reiki isn't for everyone but I do think it works and I do it often, even when I am not trying.

I have been a reiki master for almost a year and have given and received both distance and hands on treatments and attunements. I can say yes, it works wonders from experience. As Talenyn said, the energy is that of the universe, it doesn't come from the practiconer. I say to my clients, "I am just the messenger, not the source of healing" Generally, the tingling, heat, and coolness are manifestations of energy transfer taking place. Some people do expereince nausea and/or fatigue after a session. It is generally due to the infusion of energy, blockages, or the release of toxins and beginning of healing (so I was taught). I have only had a couple of clients react this way, but afterwards they reported back extreme relief of all symptoms. Most people don't have such a reaction to reiki though (that I have seen). At any rate, reiki is well worth checking into for healing purposes. There is a website http://angelreiki.nu/  that has lots of free information on reiki. It is currently down due to maintenance and an overhaul, but should be up shortly. It used to have a listing of Masters who offered free attunements and treatments, hopefully the list will remain on the site and be updated.  If anyone is interested, I don't mind answering any specific questions about reiki or offering treatments/attunements just send me a pm and let me know. I am thinking of something I believe Seforum.xxxgnant said in another thread, about not believeing in spirits, gods, etc. Well, I don't either and I have had no problems with reiki. I believe in energy, reiki is energy and it works. It doesn't take any specific belief system to use energy, as energy is universal free to anyone.
