I'm returning for my 4th visit in November and would really like to see a **** fight and gamble and drink like the locals. does anybody knowhere it happens and on what day?

The punters do not go to watch the animals fight, but go to put a bet on the winner and for the excitement they get from winning, they go for all the social side of the event prior to the bout and they go for the chance to drink with their friends. They have as much fun watching and betting on the turtles race out of the circle, as they do the chicken fights. It is also not a very popular sport here and very few people ever go. Far more go to Bull fighting, why havn't we picked on that one yet?????

It's only illegal if the government aren't running it. There's horseracing...about 8 tracks in Thailand...and the lottery here. I've been to the races in Bangkok...10000+ Thais gambling like crazy. How it works for boxing and c@ckfighting I don't know. As for playing Connect 4 for 10 baht at a bar...that's a

Thanks for your posts Geir...good to hear its not a blood sport. I owned and raised chickens for many years and know what you mean.

Twenty years ago or so when I had a small farm outside of Ballarat in Victoria I kept over 100 chickens and about a dozen roosters - the cocks and the hens establish a "pecking order" - the No1 c0ck can service any hen any time he wants and the others try to jump one when a bigger c0ck is not around - it only take a few seconds but if say the No4 c0ck jumps a hen and any of the numbers 1 to 3 are nearby they will rush over and knock him off the hen.

You always get more cocks than you need so I would often have a seperate pen for just the young males who would end up on the table - maybe 20 or so males only in that pen and the other hens and cocks roaming free range outside in the day time - I remember once the kids let the young males out in the general population when I was at work - came home that night to find a pen full of war weary cocks and a yard full of feathers - nobody was dead but lots of scratches, torn combs and blood specks. Next day not a single fight as the new pecking order had been worked out. There was not a scratch on the then No1 Rooster, a giant Rhode Island red, creatively named "Big Red" by the kids - none of the newbies had made it far enough up the pecking order for a crack at the title.

One of my roosters - a former No1 - called "Jester" loved to fight - he'd hide in the yard and ambush magpies when they tried to steal food scraps and shape up against the family dog if it got too near to his harem - I can imagine his idea of a great day out would have been taking centre seforum.xxxe and taking on all comers at the Koh Phayam c0ck fights. Enjoy.

Theres a huge gulf between killing to eat, killing small life by accident, and enjoying blood sports for entertainment.
